My sweet nephew, Stephen, was born on his sister Talia’s second birthday, a few weeks ago. When Cinda was born, we lived hours apart so a shower wasn’t an option, and Nico was born less than two weeks after we moved to Illinois, and some of the girls from puppet team threw a shower for him before we arrived. So I was pleased to give Kristine a baby shower for Talia, and I was thrilled to throw her another one for Stephen!
I hosted the baby shower, but I couldn’t have done it without help. My wonderful father-in-law, Kristine’s dad, gifted me a helium tank so I could fill the room with pretty yellow, red, and blue balloons to match the adorable baby shower decorations we received courtesy of Minted. My sweet mother-in-law, Cindy, and my friend Mari baked four dozen cupcakes, which I topped with cute little “Hooray!” toothpick banners, and my friend Ashley donated pepper jack cheese and a delicious cheese ball to add to the treat table. Cindy and another friend who arrived early for the party decorated while I finished the treats and yummy cranberry-apple-raspberry punch. We finished just as guest began to arrive; I’m grateful for their help. ?
The guest of honor, little Stephen, was the most delightful and easy going arm candy, and delighted the thirty-plus ladies who came to celebrate his birth with Kristine. I never did get a chance to hold the little guy, but I enjoyed watching the love and fondness on everyone’s faces as they fawned over him.
Kristine’s grandma, Linda, put me on to a wonderful party activity that entertains guests and blesses mother and babe – encouragement diapers. I provided each guest with a tiny diaper and a marker, and asked them to write a word of encouragement to Kristine. They loved it, and Kristine went home with thirty-five diaper changes-worth of love and encouragement. It was a meaningful and fun alternative to traditional shower games, or “words of advice” cards that aren’t usually super useful for fourth-time mommies.
I’ve been to a few baby showers in my time, but never one with so many guests, or half so many gifts. Kristine is an incredible woman, an amazing mother to her four children, and she is dearly loved by more people than I can count. Stephen may be the fourth child, but he was a surprise fourth, and his parents had already given away all of their baby things before they found out he was coming. Thanks to the outpouring of generosity and love from friends, family, and our church family, Kristine and Thomas are well set to care for this precious little boy.
I’m going to miss throwing showers for my nieces and nephews. This is the last little sweetheart for this family, and I’m told I won’t be getting any from my own siblings. My youngest brother-in-law, Sam, just announced his engagement to his lovely Jessie, so fingers are crossed for more tiny people in a few years! ?
Are you an aunt or uncle? Tell me about your little sweeties!
*Minted.com provided me with a gift code in order to purchase decorations for Kristine’s baby shower; all opinions are 100% my own, and I only endorse brands and products that I am comfortable using with my own family. The decorations sent were absolutely gorgeous, and many of them went home with Kristine to decorate Stephen’s room.*
