When Kristine of Artsy Finds offered to send me one of her gorgeous custom nursing necklaces to review, I was just about beside myself with glee. They are so incredibly pretty! And with her unique feature of including your baby’s name and a sweet phrase into the beading, this necklace is truly a one of a kind keepsake that any mother will treasure forever. I know I will!!
Most of the time, when I review something, the experience begins when the item arrives on my doorstep. This time, however, the experience truly started as soon as I decided which necklace I wanted to review. I selected which of the six styles I liked best (one
, or six
), then chose “My Love” from several phrases for inclusion on one side of the necklace, and specified my daughter’s name for the other side. I had a hard time deciding which necklace I liked best, but I eventually settled on this one
When the necklace arrived in the mail, which it did surprisingly fast, especially for a custom piece of jewelry, I was pleased to find it packaged as you see it in the photo, above. Kristine handmade this pretty card, with washi tape detailing, and packaged her necklace in a baggy with her business card. Clever, professional, and attractive!
I barely had time to put the necklace on before Serenity climbed me like a tree and declared it her precious. She really digs this necklace!!
I quickly learned one of the most important things about this necklace is that the construction with crocheted yarn and large smooth wooden beads is extremely important when a tiny human is attempting to use it to strangle you. Other than the uncomfortable pressure from her pulling on it, it really wasn’t bad at all (unlike a tiny metal chain, which feels like it’ll leave scars).
This necklace is extremely durable. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks, now, and Serenity and I have both worn it almost constantly (she keeps stealing it from me). The only place on the necklace I would be at all concerned about lasting with regular contact with toddlers are the crocheted beads (she’s biting one in the photo, above), and the ring of tiny beads directly above them. But I think it would take a ton of chewing for the yarn to come apart, and the tiny beads are secured with several strands of fishing wire, and I don’t think they’ll come loose, either. The main pendant is attached with multiple thicknesses of crocheted wool yarn, and you’d have to take scissors to it, and with a lot of effort, for it to come apart. In other words, this necklace is perfect for moms of grabby and teething babies and toddlers!
Kristine lists this necklace as both a nursing necklace and a teething necklace. A nursing necklace is meant to act as a distraction and focus for a breastfeeding baby, but is not necessarily teething-safe. A teething necklace is meant to be chewed and mouthed, but is not necessarily a very pretty piece of jewelry (I have one that is a ring of teething-safe silicone on a thin ribbon – effective, but obviously not meant to be an attractive piece of adult jewelry). This fantastic necklace is both a statement piece and a fully functional tool for distraction and teething!
I absolutely love this gorgeous nursing necklace, and Artsy Finds will most definitely be getting more custom orders for these necklaces from me, as I have more children. They would also make fantastic and meaningful gifts for new mothers ? I love that I can continue to wear this necklace well after my daughter’s nursing days are over, and that it will make a lovely inheritance piece, one day.
